The assignment for Matt Lynch’s “Wood Studio Sculpture Class” at UC was to buy a furniture plan and distort it to make it recognizable but nonfunctional as well as a piece of art. An Original Windsor Rocker plan was purchased from Fine Wood Working. The Windsor Chair plan was distorted with the Photoshop Liquify filter. This assignment was a like a personal reflection. As a young man I had developed a plan which I thought would be perfect for my life and I pursued it. After just barely getting started I found that my plan was being altered by my faulty decisions, by outside circumstances and my life began to deviate from the original plan. The perfect plan became an imperfect reality. Like this rocker, I have scars, nicks, glue spots, clunky rockers and a humpy seat. But I am still a work in progress in my Master’s hand because the God I have learned to believe in is still not finished with me. The following scripture has great personal meaning. In the Bible, Jeremiah 29:11 God says “I know what I'm doing. I have it all planned out - plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for. 12 "When you call on Me, when you come and pray to Me, I'll listen. 13 "When you come looking for Me, you'll find Me. 14 I'll make sure you won't be disappointed.”
