This piece expresses the struggle and tension that exists concerning the origin of the basic elements with which our modern society could not live without. Iron, copper and minerals are just three of the basic essentials for our modern world. How different our lives would be without these elements. My conceptualization of this piece is derived from the writings of Moses in Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth”. This is coupled with a writing of Isaiah found in the Book of Isaiah 45:18 “For this is what the LORD says — He who created the heavens, He is God; he who fashioned and made the earth, He founded it; He did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited — He says: “I am the LORD, and there is no other.” This piece expresses the creation of these basic elements of iron, copper and minerals protruding in a fluid manner upward out of the depths of the earth as if restating the words of Isaiah; here we are! The basic elements you need to fully inhabit the earth. Mankind would not have been able to fully conquer and inhabit the whole earth if we were limited to the stone-age materials or something less. Thank God Almighty for His creative provisions.
