Steel plates, marble granite and stainless steel rods are the elements. The conceptualization of this piece is the conflict of humankind with natural and man-made Boundaries and Barriers. The white marble and black granite carved mountains in this piece represent our conflict with natural Boundaries and Barriers such as geography, weather and disease. The vertical stainless steel rods represent our man-made conflict with perceived Boundaries and Barriers initiated by differences in social status, language, skin color, gender, ethnicity, and religion. It is this last man-made barrier that is of significant interest to me. Mankind has invented numerous religions to try to breakdown the Boundaries and Barriers between man and God. The Bible tells us that God first loved us. He took the initiative using His great love to break down the Boundaries and Barriers between Him and us. John 3:16 says that “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but will have everlasting life”. This sculpture is a reminder that we can live a Boundary and Barrier free life if we want to…It's all about faith in Christ.
