In 1982 one of my favorite Blue Grass singers Ricky Skaggs released an album entitled "Highways and Heartaches". On that album was the song "Highway 40 Blues". Highway 40 is the major highway between Nashville, TN and Memphis, TN. Since Nashville is the home of most of the Country and Blue Grass recording studios and record companies most country artists travel Highway 40 in their buses on the way to their next gig. If you want to listen to the song here is link http://www.myspace.com/rickyskaggs/music/songs/highway-40-blues-307397 On my last trip moving my son from Dallas I stopped along Highway 40 about 10 times and picked up a number of blown out truck tires. I and a friend of mine Fawaz Harbi assembled these tire shards into this sculpture I call "Highway 40 Blews" to honor the many truckers who travel this stretch of highway often experiencing the blues while listening to Country and Blue Grass music. From time to time their worn tires give way. Hence I have taken the liberty to change the Blues to Blews.
